Hello my friends! Thank you for taking the time to stop by my website. It is something that has been in the works for quite a while and I am so excited to share it with you all.
My name is Jenna but most of you most likely know me by @jennamyersfit (on Instagram.) I am 30 years old and I live in beautiful South Florida with my fiance and two crazy pups. I have a fairly normal background where I went to college right after high school and got a degree in Business Marketing. I got a career in my field and am currently a Business Analyst and Salesforce Administrator at a children’s education software company. STRANGE…someone who works out but their career isn’t fitness related!
OKAY so where does fitness come in? All through high school, I always felt big. I am tall, 5’9, and though I have always been on the thinner side, when all your friends are 5’2 and 100 pounds, you can feel like a monster next to the petite girls you hang out with. Because of this, I was constantly working to make myself smaller. I played volleyball and ate a pretty strict 1200 calorie diet (that I always cheated on) and always felt badly about. My friends and my mom were always so thin so it is something I grew up liking visually. All the way into college I thought 1200 calorie was what I was supposed to eat and I even dropped lower than that while prepping for things like Ultra Music Festival or vacations.
When I wasn’t eating 1200 calories, I was severely overeating. There was no happy medium for me. One extreme to the next. In 2012 and 2013 we were planning our trips to Miami and I wanted to be as thin as possible. My fiance had me going to the gym with him but I refused to lift any weights because I didn’t want to get bigger or manly (sighhh) so I did strictly cardio and ab workouts. I was definitely thin and had a six pack and I was so happy weighing in around 128.
After the vacations, I would always stop going to the gym because duh what is the point if I already looked and felt so thin? In 2014, I had ended up gaining about 15-20 pounds and though my frame can handle more weight, I wasn’t happy with my body. I wasn’t big or anything, I just didn’t feel like me. I was eating pretty much whatever I wanted and health was the furthest thing from my mind. I worked out for a short period of time in 2014, lifting weights, but quickly fell off track when I didn’t see the results I wanted (hello poor diet and alcohol.)
At the end of 2014 I decided this ishh is changing. These are the best years of my life and I do not want to waste them not feeling and looking my absolute best. I planned my New Year’s resolution a little early and my boyfriend and I started going to a small local gym. It was something we did together. I learned about workouts with his help, wrote my own plans, and figured out how to track macros. I began eating 1600 calories approximately and found I was losing weight and building muscle (newbie gains.)
The first few months of your fitness journey is the only time you can simultaneously lose fat and build muscle so the first six months of my journey, I saw incredible progress. If you are just getting started in your fitness journey, I highly suggest a coach so you can make the most of this time.
I fell in love with the gym and how it made me feel and look. My mind was changing just as quickly as my body and during that time I really feel like I learned so much about myself. I began feeling so confident in my body and my ability to do whatever I put my mind to, I wanted to share my experience and feeling with everyone. I started a fitness Instagram and had it anonymous (my handle had nothing to do with my name) and I began posting pictures of my workouts, even though I was still learning too. People responded well and I found so much comfort and support from these girls I was meeting online. I didn’t want people in my real life finding my Instagram or making fun of me but by accident, I linked that Instagram with my Facebook and people from my everyday life started following me.
At that point my cover was blown so I switched it over to my real name and just accepted it. If people want to judge my lifestyle and my posts, let them. Maybe they could be inspired to make positive changes in their life.
I later decided to go through a muscle building phase after the summer and I credit the majority of my muscle growth to that time frame. To make changes in your body you must WORK. You need to eat and you need to lift heavy. We all have different goals. Mine shifted from wanting to be extremely thin to wanting nicely sculpted muscles and curves. I want big shoulders, fuller glutes, big quads, and that is okay that those aren’t everyone’s goals. It is okay to not be understood by your family and friends for your workouts and eating habits. It is also okay to have a passion for fitness but not have it be your career.
I wanted to become an online personal trainer, even while having a full time job, because I feel like I can relate to many other womens’ struggles. I have been there. I have learned so much over the past few years and I will continue to learn as ideas and studies regarding health and fitness continually change. I began by offering free workouts to girls who were willing to try my methods then decided to really pursue this and it began by working to get my personal training certification through NASM. I do believe having certifications and higher education related to health and fitness is important but it is not everything. I have read countless articles and ebooks on flexible dieting and nutrition, watched webinars, and have closely followed doctors’ and highly respected trainers research and case studies on anything related to health and fitness. I am constantly learning and evolving. My plans are all based upon research, tried and proven exercises and scientific methods, and my experience with my own training. I have had over 500 one on one clients and can proudly say my girls have long lasting, sustainable, life changing progress.
If you are feeling like we would work well together I encourage you to take a look at my Personal Training Packages as well as the Train Like Me self instructional guides.
